The UK Staff Senate will host a "Holistic Health – Whole-Person Health" Lunch and Learn:

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST on Friday, April 15th via Zoom

Join the University of Kentucky Staff Senate Professional Development committee as we host UK Integrative Medicine and Health.  The UK Integrative Medicine & Health program focuses on the interaction of mind, body and spirit to treat the whole person. Our providers use all appropriate complementary therapies, as well as healthcare expertise and traditional disciplines, to help both patients and healthy individuals achieve optimal health and healing.

This coordinated and holistic approach to care has been proven to decrease pain, reduce stress, improve mood, strengthen the body's immune response, limit inflammation, and instill a sense of hope and well-being. By incorporating a variety of evidence-based therapies such as yoga, massage, aromatherapy and other services into our care, we are giving our patients, faculty and staff even greater opportunities to reach their health and wellness goals.

At UK HealthCare, we believe this approach is integral in the patient’s overall health and well-being. Our mission is to assist patients in reaching their health and wellness goals by treating the whole person – body, mind, spirit and community.

Joining us from UK Integrative Medicine and Health will be Jill Cole, Amanda Biddle, and Robert Slocum.  Jill Cole is a 1998 graduate of the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colorado, and has worked in the field of massage therapy as a clinician, educator, presenter and researcher ever since.  Jill is currently working toward a PhD in Rehabilitative Science at UK and is the Massage Therapy Coordinator for IMH.   Amanda Biddle is the Practice Manager of Integrative Medicine and Health.  Amanda began her UK HealthCare journey as a Patient Relations Assistant for the UKHC Head, Neck and Respiratory Clinic in the Markey Cancer Center, which laid the foundation for her working her way to her current role.  Robert Slocum began the development of the Narrative Medicine program at UKHC in 2015. This program is a first of its kind at UKHC and in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He has published case studies of NM applications for patients with brain cancer, heart failure, and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) in peer reviewed international journals.

This session is part of a series hosted by the UK Staff Senate to better educate staff and faculty on topics such as well-being, professional development, university history, and information services.
